Kenneth H.W. Earle Grad Fellowship in History Scholarship

The Kenneth H.W. Earle Graduate Fellowship in History has been established to encourage Sacramento State students to pursue research in the history and historical built environment of California. Students are invited to apply for a fellowship to support research on a project on some aspects of California history to be completed as part of a graduate program of study in the Department of History at Sacramento State.

The ultimate goal of the research must be a completed historic register nomination or a 25-30 page paper suitable for submission to an academic historic journal.

Students must meet the following requirement:

• Cumulative GPA: 3.0
• Major: History
• Class Level: Classified Graduate

• The Gold Rush
• Immigration and the Golden State
• The Great Depression in California
• California Railroads and Regulation
• The Automobile and Urban Growth in California
• Migratory Farm Labor in California
• Knights of Labor, the Workingman’s Party, and the Wobblies
• Water and the Environment
• Manhood and Fraternalism in California
• Women and Women’s Clubs in California

This list is not exclusive. Other research projects that explore the history and historical built environment of California are welcome.

The application must include:

• 500-word prospectus describing the topic and its importance
• 5-10 page writing sample of previous historic research completed by the student
• Proposed plan for completion of the project
