CSU Residency Scholarship Program
We are happy to share that we have received renewed funding from the Skyline Foundation for the CSU Residency Scholarship Program for teacher candidates for the 2025-2026 Academic Year.
The program will provide at least 21 scholarships to students at Sacramento State with awards up to $5,000 each for teacher candidates participating in CSU residency programs for 2025-2026 Academic Year. It is available to students committed to teaching in a high-need school for at least two years. The scholarship recognizes candidates who demonstrate financial need and have attributes of merit, including excellent academic performance, significant personal achievements, and community service.
All potentially eligible candidates are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled in an approved CSU residency program from 2025 to 2026 (fall and spring terms).
- Demonstrate financial need. Applicant must have a FAFSA or Cal Dream Application on file for financial need consideration
- Be in good academic standing (determined by the CSU campus program).
- Demonstrate a belief in the ability of all children to succeed and in the centrality of a teacher’s role in this success.
- Interested in working with English Learners, earning a bilingual credential, working in urban and high-need schools, and supporting students with special needs.
- Agree to at least two years of teaching in a high-need school after finishing the program.
- Agree to write a brief ‘Thank You’ email to CSU acknowledging receipt of the scholarship and completing an annual survey.
Complete an application which includes the following:
- Application form (with signed commitment);
- Personal statement (explaining the need for the scholarship and motivation for wanting to teach, and in particular in a high-need school – two-page maximum, single-spaced); and
- Unofficial Transcript from previous institution
PLEASE NOTE:
(1) The CSU Residency Scholarship Application goes through a two-phase review process, and the Chancellor’s office will notify eligible recipients in the late Fall semester; eligible recipients might not see the awards posted until late Fall or early Spring.
(2) Students eligible for the Golden State Teacher Grant (GSTG): The financial aid office expects the GSTG to be available in the Fall or early Spring semester.
(3) If students receive both the CSU Residency and the Golden State Teacher Grant in the late fall/early spring semester, the Financial Aid Office will review students’ financial aid package for any aid adjustment to keep students within their cost of attendance.
_(4) SPECIAL ATTENTION: If you are already receiving another Scholarship (Bridge; SMTR) or are interning, you are not eligible for this scholarship!
