Hedda and Thomas Smithson Science/Math Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to award students in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics majoring in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics/Statistics, and Physics/Astronomy.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible to receive this scholarship:

  • Major: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics/Statistics, and Physics/Astronomy
  • Minimum GPA: n/a
  • Class Level: Junior, Senior
  • Financial Need: No
  • Enrollment: At least half time at time of award
  • Other: See Below (Apply-to)

Applicant MUST submit the following:

  • Smithson Scholarship Application
  • List of past and present college workshops, seminars, academic achievements, awards and honors
  • List of past employers with description of responsibilities, a resume with this information is acceptable
  • Two letters of recommendation from individuals such as teachers, professors, counselors, or employers who can attest to applicants potential for success. At least one letter much be from a college professor. Letters may report the applicant participation in volunteer work or employment history, notable skills, work habits, integrity, leadership skills or other abilities
  • 1-2 Essay, double spaced, on applicant personal goals, achievements and career objective(s) in Mathematics or Science. Explain why a scholarship is need; include pertinent biographical information.
  • More than one scholarship of $2000 may be awarded if funding is available
