Juanita and Jose' Montoya Memorial Endowed Art Scholarship
Jose Montoya (1932-2013) was an art educator at California State University, Sacramento for twenty-seven years, developing a hands-on approach to teaching by designing the Barrio Arts Program. The program provided California State University, Sacramento students with real life experience through community-based projects. His teaching emphasized the tremendous responsibility of being an art teacher, using art to tap into a students innate curiosity and inspiring learning. As the only faculty member qualified to sign off on single-subject teaching credentials in art, he took pride in preparing future educators. Professor Montoya was also a co-founder of the Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF), an art collective known for its silkscreen posters and murals. Juanita Jue de Montoya has established this scholarship in honor of her late husband.
