Dr. Sankar Srivatsa Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. Sankar Srivatsa Endowed Scholarship will be created in honor and loving memory of Dr. Sankar Srivatsa and his commitment to improving the lives of others through education. Growing up in India under difficult circumstances, Dr. Srivatsa was raised by a single mom and supported by his aunt, uncle and siblings providing him the support to go on and put himself through college. After working in industry for a number of years, Dr. Srivatsa took advantage of an opportunity to transition into teaching at the university level where he found his passion of helping unlock the potential in others. Having served as Dean of Engineering at Lovely Professional University, India for two years, he moved back to California and started teaching at California State University,
Sacramento. Dr. Srivatsa enjoyed teaching and has over a 100 YouTube videos which will remain a legacy of his teaching. He was inspired to start an endowment in honor of his mother, aunt and uncle after an interaction with one of his students, who revealed that they had no place to stay and were sleeping in their car while completing their coursework. Dr. Srivatsa’s passion was to help students in need, and he truly believed in the proverb “Give a [person] a fish and you feed [them] for a day; teach a [person] to fish, and you feed [them] for a lifetime.”
