Maureen O' Leary Burness Scholarship

The Maureen O’Leary Burness Scholarship will be created in honor of Maureen O’Leary Burness whose career in special education touched many lives throughout the Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, and Nevada counties. Ms. Burness’ career in special education spanned more than thirty years as a teacher, school psychologist, Program Specialist, Principal, Director of Student Services and SELPA Administrator/Assistant Superintendent, and consultant. She led policy recommendations as the Co-Executive Director of the Statewide Special Education Task Force and a Commissioner to the State Advisory Commission on Special Education. The Maureen O’Leary Burness Scholarship is intended to support students in the College of Education who intend to work in special education in the Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, and/or Nevada counties.
